What is Covid-19?

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) is a respiratory illness.

What are symptoms of Covid-19?

Symptoms include a fever, fatigue, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing and cough.

How does Covid-19 spread?

It mainly spreads through water droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It can be spread by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

How do I protect myself?

  • It is advised to avoid close contact with people who are sick and practice social distancing of at least 6ft.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, mouth or nose with unwashed hands.
  • Wash your hands as often as you can with soap and water for at least 30 seconds. This should not take the place of washing hands, but use hand sanitizer when soap and water is not available.

If you have symptoms or were around someone with symptoms.

Self isolate for 14 days. If you develop symptoms within 14 days, monitor how they progress. Determine what level of care you need by monitoring your symptoms. If you experience mild symptoms like fever and cough, you can manage these symptoms at home with plenty of rest and over the counter medicines.

If you live with someone and they have tested positive?

The infected person must do what they can to isolate themselves. They should wear a mask at all times. If a mask is unavailable to them they must practice strict social distancing and good hand and respiratory hygiene. Since you are in close proximity you should isolate as well for 14 days and wear a mask anytime you leave your house.

How do I get tested?

There are testing facilities throughout New Jersey. The most updated information can be found on the states website at: New Jersey COVID-19 Information Hub
